Kitulgala is a wet zone rainforest. It is in the Sabaragamuwa Province. Kitulgala is found on Colombo-Hatton road. The Kelani River flows through Kitulgala. You can do water rafting in the Kelani River in Kitulgala.

How to arrive at Kitulgala

Come to Avissawella from Colombo and board a Kitulgala bus from Avissawella. Get off the trail until you reach the ferry. There’s only one boat on the ferry. The boat can cross the river to the other side.

Crossing the river, you enter a village. When we enter the forest through the village, there is an office at the Forest Department. Get a ticket before entering the jungle. There’s a washroom right there.

If you follow in the footsteps, you can get away. The nameplates have been installed all over the place.

There are many places to walk in the jungle. If you come in the morning, you can go everywhere. There are leeches in the jungle.

Take breakfast and lunch from Avissawella. There’s a shop near the port. You can get biscuits and drinks from there.

There are plenty of bathing areas. You can bathe in the Makulu Ella. Otherwise, a bath is reserved separately. You can bathe there too. On rainy days, the water can rise suddenly. So take care to bathe.

Do not carry polythene or plastic. Don’t take them with you. Do not contaminate streams. Save those resources for someone else to see.
